200 years ago today, my 3rd great-grandfather Captain Joseph Moore, his heavily pregnant wife Ann and their two young sons sailed into Sydney aboard the 237 ton Barque Woodlark, to begin a new life in the Colony of New South Wales. How excited and yet apprehensive they must have been, not knowing what to expect from their new home. I think perhaps their pioneering spirit is in my DNA, because almost 200 years later, I would feel that same excitement and nervousness when I landed in Sydney from South Africa, on the 4 March 2006, to start my wonderful new life.
